Open events
We hold a number of Open Days throughout the year, offering families the opportunity to explore our school and experience our welcoming environment. For those considering a Reception place for September, our Open Days are a great way to see what we offer and meet our staff. If you are unable to attend one of these events, we are very happy to arrange an individual tour at a time that suits you. We also welcome enquiries for in-year admissions, and encourage families to visit us at any point during the school year.

How and when to apply
Children normally start school in the September following their fourth birthday. The window for applying for a place opens at the end of October and shuts in the middle of January. This time around, the window opens on November 3rd 20205 and shuts on January 15th 2025.
Parents are encouraged to list five preferred schools on their form as school places cannot be guaranteed. Failing to include second, third, fourth and fifth preferences could lead to children being allocated school places that parents would not have listed.
All applications for places need to be made through your local county council.

What happens after you have applied?
Parents/carers will find out which school they have been allocated on April 16th 2026 and will need to accept the place by April 23rd.
Parents/carers who request to go on a waiting list for a school (in the hope that not all children allocated places go on to accept them) or who have made a late application will find out if they have a place at their preferred school on or immediately after May 14th.
The appeals process
If you have not been allocated a place at the school of your choice, then you can appeal to Gloucestershire County Council. All the relevant information about this process can be found here:Gloucestershire County Councils Appeals process
Appeals can be heard during June and July.
Transferring from another school
For pupils already at school and seeking a place at Southrop, admissions are managed by the school itself. You should telephone the school to enquire about vacancies. If we have space, then you will be asked to come to meet the Headteacher so that we can fully understand your child.

In the event that a place cannot be offered, you will be given advice about how the In-Year Admissions team at Gloucestershire County Council can help you with either an appeal or to find a place in an alternative school.
