The instillation of positive values and character traits is integral to our curriculum. We actively promote empathy, respect, responsibility, integrity, and teamwork.
Our inclusivity and diversity efforts foster an environment where all pupils, regardless of background or ability, are celebrated and respected. This includes the active teaching of tolerance, respect for differences, and cultural diversity.
Regular assessment and feedback on pupils’ personal development and behaviour is an essential part of our approach. This helps identify areas for improvement and offers targeted support.

Wellbeing
At Southrop we fully understand that children can only learn well if they feel happy and secure. To support children’s wellbeing we have invested in ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training for one of our Teaching Assistant. Our SEND coordinator and ELSA teaching assistant provide bespoke sessions for individual and groups of pupils.
We have a Nurture Cabin, which is staffed by the ELSA, and is open at playtimes, as a sanctuary away from the bustle of the playground for those who need it. Other children may prefer to take some time out in our wildlife garden.
School Council
Three times a year a new School Council is elected. Elected representatives from years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 join a pupil nominated from the infant class to form a body who discuss issues important to the pupils and lobby the leadership for change. They also arrange non-uniform days to support charities and meet Governors when they visit the school.
House points
There are three houses named by the School Council, Athena, Poseidon and Zeus. Each child is placed in one of the houses when they start at the school. Points are awarded by any of the adults in school for good work, demonstrating our values and for sports day events. At the end of the year, the winning house is awarded the Governors' Shield.
