We are a successful, dynamic, small village school with an excellent staff to pupil ratio. Our pupils are drawn from three counties – Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire – and we are able to meet the needs of each one on an individual basis, a key factor which lies at the heart of our consistently strong academic record.
   
Whilst being proud of our results, we also recognise that primary education is more than just an academic experience. As important to us as academic success is the fact that our staff and children enjoy being at school; enjoyment, well-being, good behaviour and mutual respect feature heavily in the Southrop School ethos and as a result, our children feel happy and secure with us. We were delighted to see this acknowledged in our most recent Ofsted report: "Behaviour is exemplary. Pupils get on really well with each other and value the family feeling in this small village school. They feel safe at all times......Any incidents of misbehaviour are extremely rare .......Children in Reception are happy, secure and confident, and their personal, social and emotional development is strengthened by being in a class with pupils in Years 1 and 2."

"An impressive range" of sporting, musical and extra-curricular activities is offered at Southrop. Depending on the time of year, children can take part in clubs or sessions in country dancing, netball, football, tennis, cookery, drama, running, art and craft, gardening, learning an instrument. Our proximity to the village’s Jubilee Field enables us to play football, tag rugby, athletics and rounders.

Learning extends beyond the classroom at Southrop. Our Reception children visit Forest School once a week – a large, enclosed area of woodland which the children can explore. The Cygnets make enthusiastic use of their outdoor classroom where they grow flowers, herbs and vegetables and where there is a range of educational toys and puzzles for them to enjoy.

We also run a busy programme of educational trips. Children regularly visit museums, wildlife parks, arboretums, theatres, exhibitions, nature reserves, and other places of interest. They take part in district-wide sporting festivals, including football, tag-rugby and netball tournaments, the Cirencester swimming gala and a track and field sports event. The highlight of the year for our Swansis always the residential trip which currently alternates annually between a UK and a French destination.
