St. Peter's Southrop
We visit our church regularly and have good links with local clergy, our churchwardens and the parochial church council. Pupils enjoy the beauty of our church and use it as a learning resource as well as a place of worship.
We regularly support a range of charities throughout the year including Children in Need, the RBL Poppy Appeal, Cirencester Foodbank, Shelter and many others. This activity helps children to understand that they are part of a local, a national and an international community.
Open the Book
We are blessed to have a group of local Christians who come to our worship in school occasionally to lead "Open the Book". This is an engaging form of worship developed by the Bible Society to help children learn more about scripture through drama.
Community Occasions - Armistice
The school is proud to be part of our community of local villages.
An example of how we come together is the marking of the Armistice at the 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11th month. At a solemn act of remembrance held in the church, the children read out the names of the fallen locals from the two world wars. Members of the local community join with parents and pupils to commemorate those who have given their lives, been injured or put themselves at risk in the Military or Civilian Services for the freedom and protection of our country. Those who have served or continue to serve the Crown wear dress uniform and/or service medals. This shows solidarity within our community and an appreciation of those who continue to serve us, some of whom are part of our village or school communities.
