Welcome to Southrop C of E Primary School
Southrop is a Church of England school that draws pupils from Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. The school has a high ratio of staff to children and has a strong academic record.
We are proud of our results, but we also recognise that primary education is not simply an academic experience.
Enjoyment, wellbeing, emotional development and an understanding of the way the world works are at the core of a Southrop education – as are opportunities for children to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
We accept children from Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. There are spaces in some year groups.

Cheltenham Literature Festival
Every child in the school has taken part in a trip to the Literature Festival this October and came back buzzing. The Cygnets saw Nathan Bryan and Depo Adeola talking about their book Speak Up! about a young activist on a mission to save her local library. Year 3 and 4 saw the hilarious Pamela Butchart, who was talking about her latest book, There’s a Beast in the Basement. Finally Year 5 and 6 saw Phil Earle whose latest book, Until the Road Ends tells a story set in World War II through the eyes of a stray dog. Each child also had the opportunity to buy a book by the author, queue up to talk to them and get the book signed, such an inspiring experience. Mr Jones even got a hug from The Gruffalo!
PTA Marathon
What a blast! The marathon is always a joyful event but the PTA really surpassed themselves with the colour run, which was inspired by Millicent. The children showed great resilience and collectively achieved a massive 7 marathons. Rupert achieved the most laps in the Cygnets and Harriet in the Swans. Archie and Arianne were awarded medals for exceptional effort, but everyone deserves a huge well done!
Mock Trial
What a fabulous job the Year 5&6s team did at the Mock Trial, gaining four out of the six prizes available! Best individual performance went to Guy, Court Reporter to Morgan, best individual costume to Millicent and best overall costumes to the whole team. The impressive surroundings of the court room enabled everyone to inhabit their role and play their part to the best of their ability. Our defence solicitors asked insightful questions; our witnesses withstood the fierce probing of the prosecution team; our usher upheld the formality of the court; our court reporter described all events as they unfolded; our court artist provided a snapshot of the action; our magistrates did their best to remain neutral. After dramatic twists and turns, the verdict was given… GUILTY. Fortunately, our defendant was allowed to return to school a free man, but we all learned many valuable lessons about the justice system and rule of law (although for some the best part was the juice and biscuits at the end!)

RIAT Success!
We are very proud of Morgan and Bella who were the overall winners at the RIAT STEM challenge.
Our most recent Ofsted report makes the following comments:
