Governors

The core functions of the governing body include, but are not limited to ensuring:

that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
that the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources

A governing body and its governors must:

act with integrity, objectivity and honesty and in the best interests of the school
be open about the decisions they make and the actions they take and shall be prepared to explain their decisions and actions to interested parties

The governing body also has legislative responsibility and strategic oversight for the school’s safeguarding arrangements.

At Southrop C of E Promary School we operate the "Circle Model" of Governance. This means most decisions are made by the Full Governing Body (FGB). We do however have three standing committees; 1. Pay; 2. Christian Ethos; 3; Head Teacher Appraisal (Panel); and we form Special Committees (Panels) as required.

Dale Hall

Parent Governor - Chair of Governing Body (Term 13th June 2022 - 12th June 2026)

I am Chair and a parent governor. I have three daughters. My youngest is currently enrolled in Southrop School, my middle recently graduated from Southrop and my eldest is at university. I am a chartered civil engineer leading multi-discipline engineering on major railway infrastructure projects. In my leisure time I enjoy coaching my daughters' gymnastics classes. I hope I can offer a positive contribution to the current and future generations of the school community as a member of the governing team.

Cassandra Patten

Parent Governor - Vice Chair of Governing Board (Term 13th November 2024 - 12th November 2028)

For most of my teenage and early adult life, I was a professional swimmer.

My major accolades were winning an Olympic Bronze medal and two World Championship Silver medals.

Since retiring in 2012, I have set up my own coaching business alongside qualifying as a PE teacher.

I bring experience from time my time working as Director of Swimming in Radnor House, a Prep school in Sevenoaks. It was here where I deepened my understanding of primary education, preparing myself to be an advocate for high standards and a well-rounded curriculum.

Foundation Governor - Position vacant.

* This is a great opportunity to contribute to the development of your community school and join our freindly and passionate team *

We would love to hear from anybody who might be able to fulfil the role of the Foundation Governor. The Foundation Governor will be nominated by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE).

Anyone who is willing to preserve and develop the Christian foundation of the school and contribute to its effective governance is welcome to apply for this role.

Local Authority Governor (Term 13th November 2024 - 12th November 2028)

I had a career in the arts culminating as Director of one of the south wests leading arts and crafts centres and was a board member of an internationally touring theatre company. I have volunteered at the school for many years, particularly driving the minibus and have also helped in the classroom. I am delighted to be the nominated Local Authority governor.

Co-opted Governor (Term: 23rd September 2024 - 22nd September 2028)

I am co-opted governor and currently have two children enrolled in the school. I have over a decade of experience in senior leadership roles within the charity sector supporting marginalised and vulnerable communities. I am passionate about fostering inclusive environments that support collaboration and growth. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, I am dedicated to supporting children’s emotional well-being. Combined with my psychology background and volunteer work for the NSPCC, I bring a compassionate, child-centered approach to all my work. I look forward to using my strategic vision and commitment to education to help all our children at Southrop Primary thrive.

Shelley Davis

Staff Governor ( 23rd September 2024 - 22nd September 2028)

I have been a teacher for 18 years and always knew that I wanted to be a teacher from a very young age. I have taught in two large schools but always wanted to teach in a small school since my teacher training. I am passionate about teaching Early Years and have previously had a mixed class of Reception and Nursery. Within my teaching I have been lucky to travel to different countries to see the pedagogy of teaching and good practices. Also I have been very fortunate to be on the Governing body and learn about how the schools are run. At home I live with my triplets who are very active and keep me on my toes. We love being outside and enjoy wood walks, bike rides and we have just started to grow our own vegetables in our allotment. I am so pleased that I have joined this wonderful community. Within school I am a teacher of Cygnets class Thursday to Friday and I am the subject lead for Read, Write Inc, Physical Education, Early Years and Design Technology.

I have been on a governing board for the last ten years and have sat both on Curriculum and Standards as well as the finance board. At the beginning of my term I was a Co-opted Governor but have since been appointed a staff governor.
