The 2017–2022 Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education places the following principle at its heart:

“To explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.”

At Southrop Church of England Primary School, we follow this Agreed Syllabus and are committed to providing learning experiences in Religious Education that inspire, enthuse and motivate our pupils as they explore a range of faiths and worldviews.

Our curriculum offers creative and engaging opportunities for children to explore the three core elements of the syllabus:

• Make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs

• Understand the impact and significance of these beliefs on individuals and communities

• Make connections between beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied

Our RE teaching supports and strengthens our school vision, ethos and values, which are central to everything we do. The importance we place on nurturing the whole child—spiritually, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually—is reflected throughout our Religious Education curriculum.
