Physical Education
PE is a key component of our curriculum. Children have at least two hours of timetabled PE each week. In addition there are opportunities of up to four additional hours at an after school sports club, which is free to attend.
For at least half the year our PE lessons take place at the spacious Jubilee Field in the village. When the weather prevents us getting up to the field the lessons take place in the playground.
The PE we provide is supplemented by additional tuition provided from external partners such as Chance to Shine (English Cricket Board).
Our Sports Coach
Our PE lessons are taught by our fantastic sports coach, Miss Belcher, who is the Innovation & Ideas Lead for Atlas Sports. https://atlassports.co.uk/ Miss Belcher’s specialism is rugby and she plays for Gloucester.
Alternative Sports
We are very keen for the children to experience alternative sports.
At the moment Reception and Year 1 children are taking part in ‘Balanceability’, This is a programme designed to help children gain the confidence and skills required to ride a pedal bike independently, getting them off to the best start in cycling and assisting their ability to participate in Bikeability at a later stage. The children will be using both balance bikes and pedal bikes. T
Year 2 and 3 children are participating in ‘Scooter Wise’, a programme which helps children ride a scooter safely so that they can enjoy the freedom and fun. Scooters help improve coordination and enable children to learn how to balance using their weight.
Year 4, 5, and 6 are off to Far Peaks, a climbing centre just outside Northleach, , taking part in NICAS level 1 programme. .
