At Southrop, we believe that history gives us an understanding of who we are, and where we came from. We make full use of resources within the immediate and wider local area enabling children to develop a deep understanding of the history of their locality. We aim to inspire children to find out more about the past, in order to understand the present more clearly and also help them feel a sense of where they stand within the world’s history. We use the Kapow History scheme of work to deliver our vision for history, alternating between history and geography topics each term. Our curriculum is enriched and supported by trips and visitors to our school, such as visiting the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Corinium Museum in Cirencester or having historical visitors from Portal to the Past.
